| | YSR supporters on statue unveiling spree | | Nalgonda, 26 October 2009: Staunch followers of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy have embarked on a statue unveiling spree in the district to retain the legacy of their favourite leader with a futuristic perspective. They are spearheading the statue unveiling campaign by purchasing impressive statues of YSR from Hyderabad and far off places in West Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts and installing them at main junctions in villages and towns.
On the other hand, some of the influential party leaders known for their unstinted loyalty to YSR’s family have strategically extending their support to the campaign by nurturing a hope to see YSR’s son and Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy at the helm of affairs in the State in the near future. Film actors Rajasekhar and Jeevitha unveiled one statue at Munagala last month. Minister for Information Technology K Venkat Reddy, considered a close aide of YSR, unveiled the statue at Dindi few days ago.
Meanwhile, the village Congress committees have installed YSR’s statues at Medaram in Nereducherla mandal and Bakkavanthulagudem in Mattampalli mandal. Minister for School Education D. Manikya Varaprasad unveiled the statues in separate ceremonies held in the villages on Sunday. Huzurnagar MLA N Uttam Kumar Reddy and others were present. “We have mobilised the requisite funds through voluntary contributions and purchased YSR’s statue from Tadepalligudem in West Godavari district,” said Medaram sarpanch Rama Rao.
“We owe a lot to YSR for the development of our village,” Rao remarked and said that YSR’s statue was installed in the village to draw inspiration from his developmental endeavour. Meanwhile, plans are on to install YSR’s statues in Nereducherla, Buduguntlapalem, Dushencherla, Gundlapahad, Garidepalli and other places soon. | |
